Aerial Methane Detection

MetScan v1 is a UAV-mounted methane sensing system, designed for efficient leak detection in the natural gas industry. Utilizing open-path TDLAS technology to detect fugitive gas emissions from a safe distance, allowing for fast inspections over large or hard-to-reach areas.

The system is built for methane leak detection in various scenarios, for example gas pipelines and wells, as well as urban high-rise buildings, landfills, wastewater treatment plants, and other industrial sites.

Application Scenarios

MetScan v1 for methane sensing on natural-gas well sites. Precisely locate methane leaks on your well site in Western Canada

Natural Gas Wells

At natural gas well sites, MetScan v1 utilizes its high-sampling-rate methane sensor, telephoto camera, and three-axis stabilization, together with laser ranging to capture leakage valves, flanges, and other components from a distance.

The MetScan v1 can scan your well site remotely, allowing you to safely and precisely identify problems at a centimetre level.

Gas Pipelines

Acquire dense methane concentration data along pipelines thanks to its automated belt-type scanning and 50 Hz sampling rate.

The SSI platform renders the data in real-time and accurately labels the leak source by combining positioning information. This technology allows for quick panoramic scans of utility tunnels with safety in mind.

High-Rise Buildings

MetScan V1 captures methane leaks inside and outside high-rise residential buildings with 1D/2D scanning and 50Hz sampling. Achieving centimetre-level positioning with a 300mm telephoto lens and laser ranging.

The SSI platform intelligently distinguishes leak sources and labels floors using 3D point clouds, grids, and the building’s 3D model for precise localization

MetScan v1 Key Features

3-Axis Stabilized Gimbal

The carefully tuned three-axis gimbal ensures pinpoint laser measurements and clear imagery, even from a long distance.

Laser Rangefinder

An integrated laser rangefinder provides distance measurements to targets. It has a range of up to 800m in low-light conditions and 500m in daylight.

Together with the gimbal attitude data, the laser rangefinder data is used for accurately georeferencing the methane readings (latitude, longitude, and relative altitude.)

Dual Cameras

The integrated 35mm (equiv.) wide-angle and 300mm (equiv.) telephoto cameras enable real-time dual-view fusion, combining broad-area inspection with long-distance HD imaging.
